Have you heard about Ourlando’s Farm to Table Event?  On November 15, Enzian Theater is graciously hosting this event aimed at jump-starting a truly local food system in Central Florida. Join the Ourlando Local Food Alliance on Sunday, November 15, from 12:30-2:30 to meet our local farmers and local food vendors, including some of the Audubon Park Community Market’s wonderful vendors. The event begins with passed hors d’oeuvre made with locally grown produce by Chef Josh Oakley, the executive chef of Enzian, followed with the showing of Food Fight. After the documentary, there will be plenty of time to meet and mingle with our local farmers and vendors. We will also be featuring the organically, fresh brewed beer of Orlando Brewery, fair trade coffee from Austin’s and assorted blends of tea from Dandelion Communitea.  All of this is covered in the cost of each ticket, which can be purchased on the Enzian website.

Not sure you can swing the ticket price?  Come to the Audubon Park Community Market this week and next for TWO chances to win gift baskets with tickets for you and a friend to attend the event!  Stop by the Ourlando tent at the market for more details.

And while you’re there, you might be tempted to buy your dinner from ROOTS.  This week they’re serving up:

Halloween at the Community Market (Wednesday, October 28th)

aphalloween

With Halloween right around the corner, the Audubon Park Community Market would like to join in on the fun! Costumes are encouraged, and there will be trick-or-treating for the kids at all the vendor sites! Bring your family along to the market for live music, beautiful local food, local art, Halloween activities and more! And if we get enough costumes for a contest, there will be a great prize in store for the winner!

We’ll have a few extra handmade vendors on hand with some Halloweeny wares, including ZombieHead, makers of grotesquely detailed, undead jewelry and accessories!

And come hungry, because ROOTS will be serving up seasonal dishes in celebration of Halloween, and they sound delicious!:

Pumpkin Soup: California pumpkins roasted and pureed with almonds and spiced with nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon served with a slice of homemade bread, and a side spinach salad with candied pecans

Lentil stew and cornbread: Stew of lentils, florida tomatoes, california potatoes, and california collards, served with a side of homemade corn bread

Might we also recommend the LOCAL PUMPKIN BUTTER from Big Wheel Provisions or the SMOKIN’ Barkolate from Chateau Confections?

We’ll see you at the market this Wednesday!

Hello, Fall Weather (for real this time)!

Finally!  It looks like we are going to have fabulous weather for this week’s market!  Wednesday’s market should be even better, because we’ll have more of the same great stuff, plus cool, breezy weather.  We’ll have music under the stars from Sarah Purser, Roger Docking, and Matthew Mendel, plus great food, art, and handmade.

We love local food!

This week, ROOTS is serving up two delicious entrees.  They have been selling out every week, so come early!

Falafel pita sandwiches
Homemade wheat pitas filled with baked falafel, homegrown lettuce, florida golden tomatoes, florida cucumber, and florida green bell peppers, served with a side of roasted garlic hummus

And

We hope you all enjoyed the return of Chateau Confections last week!  We are so please to have Donna and her beautiful, gourmet chocolates back at the market.  And in case you didn’t notice, the market welcomed 2 new food vendors last week!  Wild Ocean Seafood Market charmed us with their fresh, Florida-caught seafood.  The smoked mullet was a sell-out hit, and we recommend that you try it!  Some of you probably had the chance to try Marley’s homemade spring rolls and summer rolls, ready to take home and enjoy!  We are very happy to welcome our new and returning food vendors.

Follow your favorite food vendors online!

Did you know that Big Wheel Provisions posts updates about their latest yuumy food on their Facebook page and Twitter?  They often publish a list of items available for each week’s market, and will let you know what’s coming up.  You can also visit our other local food vendors by clicking on the following links:

AE Foods: website.

Chateau Confections: website.

Homegrown Co-op: website and blog.

Wild Ocean Seafood Market: website and Twitter.

And of course, you can always talk to these great people in person, when you visit them at the market.  See you there!

July 15, 2009: Community Market

audubonparkmarketlogo154

This Week:
The Audubon Park Community Market Earned Some Friendly Nods in the Orlando Weekly’s “Best of Orlando.”

We are just delighted to see so many of the market’s great participants recognized in this year’s “Best of Orlando” issue of the Orlando Weekly.  We know we have a lot more to do in order to make this market great for everyone, but it’s great to know that we are on the right track.  Nods went out to Steve Moreau of (farmfresh2u.com) for providing the best local eggs, Suzy Grim of Backyard Gardening for her readymade organic gardens, and the Rusted Chain Bike Collective for providing free tuneups and information every week at the market.

We are very proud of all of our vendors who have stuck with us as the market grows and develops.  Special thanks to everyone in the community who has continued to support us over these past 6 months.  We are all looking forward to continuing to improve our offerings and bringing together our community.

Summertime means the best organic, locally grown fresh herbs!

When Summer rolls around in Florida, it usually means less locally-grown vegetables, thanks to the heat, heavy rains, and hungry insects.  While some of your favorite vendors, such as Backyard Gardening may not have a lot of produce to offer, this is the time to bring some creativity into your cooking with fresh summer herbs.  AJM & Backyard Gardening are now providing a selection of fresh-cut herbs from mint and basil, to lemongrass and rosemary.  Stop by the Backyard Gardening tent to select the freshest herbs for making salads, teas, sauces, and other delicious dishes.  Interested in growing your own?  Suzy and Amanda offer starter plants and pre-planted large containers.
